Okay, better late than never, right? ๐ I really enjoy seeing all the beautiful quilts twice a year for the Blogger’s Quilt Festival hosted by Amy @ Amy’s Creative Side.
Since I recentlyย posted about this quilt, I’m not going to reiterate too much, but I’m entering my mini-mini in the Art Quilt category. The design is based on the Bloomin’ Pillow instructions by Cori @ Hey Let’s Make Stuff. I’ve made a few of these for various things, and it’s really a fun way to work!
This particular version is 4.5″ x 4.5″. During the process of making it, the idea popped into my head to thread sketch a lamp post on it, and I couldn’t get it out of my head. It took a leap of faith to possibly mess up the pretty background, but sewing so small means at least the experiments aren’t costly on your time if it messes it up! haha
All the texture in the blues ended up feeling like a stormy, windy day, so I named it “Light in the Storm” and it was really fitting for what was going on during the time.
If you’ve got a moment,ย check out the other wonderful entries in the Blogger’s Quilt Festival. There is always such wonderful inspiration to be found there!

I love this so much, Anne! Good luck in the festival! ๐
Thanks for giving me the impetus to make it! ๐ It’s still one of my favorite things I’ve ever made. ๐
Itty bitty! so adorable. Makes me think of Narnia.
Thank you! I love that people are getting a Narnia reference from it. ๐ I tried making one specifically for Narnia that didn’t work out as well, but it was inspired by people suggesting the Narnia influence. ๐
I just nominated you, Anne! I love the luminosity you achieved.
Wow, thank you, Jill! For the record, yours was on my list of three that I nominated. ๐ Probably no surprise, I’m a huge fan of your work!
This is really stunning!
Thank you Jennifer! ๐ I had a lot of fun with this one.
I love your mini mini! I had no idea it was even a mini looking at your thumbnail. Beautifully executed. It reminds me of the lamppost in Narnia.
Thank you so much! The scale is hard to tell without seeing something to compare it to. ๐ I wasn’t specifically going for Narnia, but I did have the Narnia style lamppost in mind when I sat down to do the thread sketching. It’s great that so many people are catching that reference!
I LOVE THIS. I want to try this. I’m afraid of embroidery and applique, since I’ve not be very good at embroidery. This might be doable.
Thank you! The only thing to remember is that it’s a bit more like drawing with pen because it is incredibly difficult to take out. (Although possible, sometimes it shreds your fabric, though.) However I’d totally recommend it, it’s a ton of fun and the style works well with non precision which I am ALL about. haha!
I didn’t get around to commenting on this quilt when you posted about it (I still have it marked as unread in my blog feed!). It’s absolutely wonderful. The gradation of the colours is lovely and that pop of yellow begged to be thread painted. Awesome.
Thanks so much, Jenn! And I feel you, I’m way behind on my blog commenting, too. So I truly appreciate you taking the time to share some encouragement with me! ๐
