Finish: Sewing Summit Swap
In the US, we’re celebrating Labor Day today by not laboring, which I’m totally down with.
I decided to sneak in some morning sewing during the long weekend and managed to finish up my Sewing Summit Swap item this morning. We were to make a pouch, pillow or mini, given the favorite color of our partner.
I’ve been wanting to try out this Bloomin’ pattern by Let’s Eat Grandpa for a while, and decided I’d give it a try with the large-sized Open Wide Zippered Pouch by Noodlehead.
I started by pulling fabrics in aqua, grey and orange based on my partner’s favorite color and flickr favorites.
I ended up not using all the fabrics in the bloomin’ design, although I think it would have worked out fine if I had. I worried I was going to run out of room, but it’s a little deceiving how this design grows as you go along.
I wanted the back to be the same thickness, so I did a simple QAYG pattern using fabrics from the set used on the front of the pouch.
I just got a set of colorful zippers from zipit on etsy, and decided to use the orange zipper to tie all the design elements together. I am in love with all my colorful zippers! I see a lot more pouches and zippies in my future.
I really need to learn how to design around pouches and bags losing so much of their design to the box corners. But I’m pretty happy with how this came out! I hope my partner likes it as well.
Now I just need to figure out what to fill it with!
