It’s another WIP Wednesday!

This has been such a fun week of sewing for me. I finished two projects and a few blocks, have another well on its way, and bought fabric today for my next quilt!

Finished Projects – 3

First up is my beloved garden fence quilt. I had almost finished when I last posted about it, but now it’s got a fun orange binding that makes me smile whenever I see it. This is the first quilt I’ve ever made for me to keep; all the others have been given away to family and friends. I am writing this blog post while snuggled under it on the couch, listening to the rain. There is something so satisfying about being kept warm by something you made for yourself!

Pieced back of the garden fence quilt. I love that this quilt is reversible, it makes it so much more fun to snuggle with.

Next is my rather strange “Civilization” quilt, made as my challenge quilt for the South Bay Area Modern Quilt Guild’s photo-inspiration challenge. This was really quick for me to put together, as it’s only 2′ long. It will be a wall hanging for the room where we play board games in our next apartment. Here’s the final quilt! And the inspiration photo is over here.

My Civilization-inspired quilt. Each main color represents a different player in the game and the territory that they controlled. I know, it’s super nerdy.

This was a strange quilt for me. My first time designing my own quilt from scratch, and lots of mistakes were made along the way! But overall I think I’m happy with it. I like how abstract it is while still clearly showing the territories in the game. This was also my first time doing free-motion quilting, and I had a blast! I really want to make more mini quilts. You know, to practice.

I love free motion quilting now!

Finally, I decided to play around with making some asterisk blocks. These are my three interpretations on the asterisk: off-center, reversed, and wonky. I think I like the wonky one the best!

In-Progress – 1

Coming off the high from making my Mischevious Gnome messenger bag a couple of months ago, I decided I was going to make myself a purse! This project got put on hold for a while, but today I got it to a point where I’ve almost finished it. The pattern is Valori Wells‘s “Mina Bag”. This just needs me to finish the closure, put on a cute button (I adore buttons), and do a bit more top-stitching and it will be done!

My new purse! Pattern is the Mina Bag by Valori Wells.

New Projects – 1

For the first time in a while, I don’t have any planned quilts in my queue, or any baby quilt deadlines! So I decided that I would play with a beta version of our Palette Builder tool (coming soon for everyone to play with!) and make a quilt with a palette from a recent vacation. Here’s the photo of the Great Salt Lake, and the palette I built from it with our tool.

I had a fun trip down to our local fabric store, Hart’s Fabric, and picked out the fabrics I felt best matched. I’ve been wanting to do a solids quilt for a while, but just couldn’t resist the koi fish….

Yummy new fabrics!

Not sure what pattern I’m going to do yet with this! I would love to hear suggestions.

Thanks again to Lee over at Freshly Pieced for hosting the WIP Wednesday link party!
