I sometimes wonder if every weekend was a 3-day weekend, would I get used to it? Or would life just be that much better all the time?
I actually started the weekend a little early, as the South Bay Area Modern Quilt Guild was doing a sew day on Friday. I joined for the afternoon, and got little bits done here and there on lots of projects.
I made some more low volume improv log cabin blocks. I think I’m ready to put this away for a bit again. I need to figure out what it’s going to be before I work too much more on it.
What I’ve really been feeling lately is getting some progress done on my dissertation quilt. I started collecting fabrics for this quilt while working on my dissertation, and I coaxed myself through the writing by promising myself I could work on the quilt when it was done. This quilt is going to be for me and I’m really excited by it! I cut all the pieces a while ago, but I’ve been busy working on things for other people and haven’t had a chance to work on this. It will eventually be a modified bento box quilt, but I have quite a few blocks left to go!
The rest of my weekend consisted of house repair, yard work, BBQ with friends, and a gorgeous hike in Big Basin State Park. I couldn’t ask for a better weekend!
Now it’s back to work and I’m having trouble wrapping my brain around the fact that it’s already Tuesday!

I love love LOVE the lv blocks!!!!!!!!
Thank you!! Your quilt I think inspired them on some level! I was realizing that I don’t have a yellow one yet, so maybe I won’t put it away quite yet. 😉
I just need to figure out where I’m going with it. Am I going to keep it? Gift it? What size? I don’t know!
Ah I had a dissertation quilt too! I used it to help relieve the thesis stress. Worked great and I got bitten by the crafty bug!
Yes!! I got into quilting as a way to escape the stress of my thesis and now I’m a total addict. 😀 I’m suddenly excited to get the quilt done, maybe because it’s been a year since I started it…
Yay dissertation quilt! Will it take longer than your thesis took to write?
That’s a good question. Technically it only took me a month of solid work to write my dissertation. And I’ve been working on this for a year, but certainly not solidly. I think in actual time put into it, this will take significantly less time than the dissertation. 🙂
If I finish the quilt in less than 7 years, then I will have finished it in less total time, too.
Beautiful blocks – I love long weekends too! They feel like such a luxury…. but at least it’s nearer next weekendthan last weekend now – we’ve got through “hump day” as my husband puts it!
Oh man, I missed this comment somehow, I’m sorry! You’re totally right about it being nearer to the next weekend, especially as now it’s Friday. lol We used to call Wednesday “hump day” when I was in grade school. And then we’d all snicker because “hump”. That is probably more than you needed to know! hahaha
I’m ready for another 3-day weekend. 4th of July is coming soon at least!
