So I keep mentioning that there are some changes coming to the new Palette Builder, and I can finally unveil what they’re going to be! Look for the changes to show up later this week!
First up, when you put your cursor over a palette swatch, the swatch itself and the circle that goes with that swatch gets a bit bigger. The opposite is true as well. This will hopefully make it easier to figure out which circle goes with which color. It’s much easier to see in action, but hopefully the screenshot gives you an idea.
Secondly, and the thing I’m most excited about is that your palettes can now be matched to either the closest hex value or Kona Cotton solid! No more trying to match your screen to the color card, we do it all for you.
Of course, a few caveats with fabric matching. First of all, your screen’s colors is different from everyone else’s screen’s colors, so you may need to make some adjustments when you see the Konas in person. Secondly, we do our best to match the closest Kona, but sometimes there just isn’t a close color, and so the color we find may look a little off. Pale yellow is closer to pale green than you’d think to a computer. š
We are doing final bug fixes, but I will be sure to let you all know when you have access to the new features!

These changes sound wonderful. I am looking forward to matching to the kona solids, what a great idea.
We hope to add more things to match to over time, but it will require the help of the various companies. I’m pretty confident that they’ll be willing, though!
Oh my goodness, BEYOND excited with this news!!
Yay!! I can’t wait to make it available to everyone! Just want to make sure all (okay most) of the bugs are worked out before I let it out into the wild. š
Oooh, I love the changes – especially the Kona highlight. What a great tool.
Thank you! I’m super excited to get it into people’s hands. š I’ve been having so much fun just playing around with it. “My dog’s fur is Kona Spice!” lol
that’s brilliant!!! Love the kona matching – you are so clever š
I want you to know that hex matching is there for you. Unless I totally am misremembering and you aren’t the one who mentioned it’d be nice to hex match. In which case I take back all of that. And um, I’ll be over there adding beads to my quilts.
Wow Anne, these changes look amazing! I can’t tell you how impressed I am with your tech skills. Can’t wait to try out the new version!
I can’t wait for you to try it out! š Programming is just a different type of craft. I’m totally serious. It’s a creative process, but of course it requires a different set of skills than quilting. Which is too bad. Oh man, now my brain is stuck on the idea of some type of programming language for quilts. I think I just scared myself.
Exciting roll out – Kona will have to name a fabric color Mishka slobber don’t you think?
HAhahahaha It’d totally fit into their low volumes. š I’ll have to ask about that. Although honestly I’d rather have a yellow-toned dark grey (something like a darker ash).
Wow, matching to Konas will be awesome! Thanks for the continual improvement!
You’re welcome! š And I’m so excited that I could finally reveal what we’ve been up to! Can’t wait to get the bugs out of the system so I can release it for you all. š
Oooh! Can’t wait to try out the Kona matching! I have three projects waiting in the wings for colour selection, so I will definitely test it out.
Excellent! I hope you find it useful for your projects! We hope to add more things that you can match to over time, as well! š
Color matching is brilliant! What a great update!

Thanks Kelly! Also, it was great to see you again last weekend! That quilt was turning out gorgeously. š
I am so looking forward to this!!!
Yay!! I can’t wait to release it. š Doing some final touches, so definitely going to be available this week!
Anne, this is AMAZING!! You have done a brilliant job with this. I know it will be a hit with all the quilters (and sewers and painters and home decorators and anyone who loves colour. You should feel very proud.
E xx
Thanks so much Erin!! š I sure hope everyone finds it useful! I’m hoping to add a few more small things, but soon I’ll be moving on to a new tool. VERY exciting. š
