YAY FRIDAY! It’s been a crazy week here, and I am really looking forward to getting back to sewing this weekend!
If you’re interested in learning more about Quilt Design A Day and the creative process (and are a member of the modern quilt guild), the webinar I gave on Wednesday is now available online. Free!
In the meantime, here’s another week full of designs.
Still playing with HSTs, although this has veered into more complicated territory. I like the shape it creates in the negative space, but I don’t really feel like I got this design where I wanted it.
It’s interesting how different everyones tastes are. I actually really love this design, in both the navy and lighter grey versions. I like that there’s all sorts of secondary stuff going on and it feels like a flower lattice. However, I know a lot of people really don’t care for this one. I’m going to make this one at some point and then you’ll all be believers! 😉
This design is inspired by the Modern Trellis design by Must Love Quilts. I loved the radial symmetry and the off-centered middle placement, and this was the design I came up with trying to capture those elements.
Going back to exploring half square triangles, but this time I wanted to play with them interacting with full squares. For the life of me, I can’t see anything but goombas from Super Mario Bros. from these things. Which is ridiculous because they’re not that similar.
Still more HST play. I had a lot of fun with the chevron/zig-zag/hst interplay in this one. It reminds me a bit of a snowy mountain scape. Which admittedly has nothing to do with the source image. So it goes!
My quilt, Totoro! When I saw the source image, the triangles and shape of the tap reminded me so much of Totoro that I had to make this quilt.
Back to playing with HSTs, and I was really working on minimalism with these designs. I enjoyed adding the 3D effect in the leftmost one, but I liked the tessellation of the other two and how the negative space shape was the same as the positive space shape. I think the orange and blue is my favorite of the three, it just feels very summery! (And usually aqua and orange designs use aqua as the base, it was fun to switch it up!)
That’s it for this week. Have a great weekend, and make sure to leave time to be creative!
