Sew Day and Side Swap
What a weekend! I am a huge fan of sew days, although I need to remember to get up and move more often. Wow, my back was pretty thrashed by the end of that.
It was such a fun time, though, I can’t wait for our next one!! On Saturday, the South Bay Area Modern Quilt Guild, had our first sew day of 2013. We rented a room at the Aptos Community Foundation for 12 hours, 10a to 10p. It was a really great space! Sooo much table space!
Our guild is participating in the charity quilt made from QuiltCon challenge blocks, and our goal was to get the top pieced. We were able to go from this:

All in those 12 hours. See what I mean about table space?! You can see Karen (who blogs at CapitolaQuilter) busting out the free-motion quilting on this!
I spent most of my time helping with the quilt, but after the top was completed, I was able to get a few projects of my own done. First up, my second 6.5″ star for the January Lucky Stars Paper-Pieced BOM. Done with that for the month!
These are various oranges, yellows and pinks on indigo and navy. Once that was done, I moved onto some English Paper-Piecing, and made some 1″ hexies for my second item for the Sew Sew Modern Swap. The deadline for that is fast approaching.
I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them (I have the start of a plan now, though! And so I need to make more hexies!) so then I moved onto the Friends + Fabric Bee blocks I need to do this month. I finished the last seam just as we needed to start cleaning up. Phew! I still need to make one or two more of these, but they’re super fast and fun! This month’s queen bee asked for low volume wonky crosses.
In other news, the paper-piecing side swap I did has now been officially completed! As you may recall, I did the angry birds mini-quilt. Well, my partner also did something game related! How funny is that? She made a space invaders pot holder, and it is just too cute! Look at that tiny little piecing. :O And for my paper-pieced block (I asked for an unfinished block) she made me this beautiful kimono, using the colors I picked for the 3×6 swap, so it will fit right in. I love it, thank you so much Kimi!!
Hand-stitched class started today, so hopefully you’ll see some hand-stitched things showing up in the next few days!

Wow. How many helped quilt the quiltcon challenge one? It looks great. I’m going to an interest meeting for a BMQG this weekend. Lunch plus fabric shopping (or maybe just browsing, I don’t really need anything)
Four or five of us, with each step dwindling to fewer people (I mean, only one person can quilt at a time!) It was fun to do it as a group effort! YES YES YES BMQG BMQG ONE OF US ONE OF US. I just had a chocolate cupcake and am slightly insane right now.
I do not understand what “I don’t really need anything” means, though.
