Sew Day Prep
Tomorrow is the South Bay Area Modern Quilt Guild‘s second sew day, and I’m so excited! Except that I’m not doing any of the prep I should be doing for it. What’s that about?
It’s been really cold lately (like y’know, in the 50s) and so I’ve been cuddling under the blanket with the cats and dog instead of sewing. Hopefully sew day will be a nice spike in productivity, because this is what I have to show for the last two days. Ready?
Yep. One 6.5″ paper-pieced block. This is the January block of the month in Don’t Call Me Betsy’s Lucky Stars paper-pieced BOM. I really like the Oakshotts in the center of this one (I picked up a few in their super sale), and I think I might do bits of shot cotton in each of them. I am making the small stars, and I think I’d like to make two of each, and then sprinkle them around with lots of negative space on patchy navies, indigos, and maybe pops of royal blue. In my head this looks awesome. We’ll see how it looks when it gets put together.
You’ll notice that my declaration “I’m done with navy!” after my mod pop is a bit laughable. Oh and it gets worse. I picked up the central fabric for my modern medallion quilt for Stitched In Color’s Handstitched class (there are still openings, come join me!). Yah, it’s this.
So, maybe not so done with navy, yet! This gorgeous Art Gallery Fabric is the new Luxe in Bloom line by Sarah Watson, Extravagarden in Bold. Like all Art Gallery fabrics, it has a wonderful feel to it!
I’m going to try to baste my crane star pillow and my madrona road quilt tonight so they’re ready for quilting if I get to it at the sew day tomorrow. I think I’m planning to bring 5 projects for 12 hours… Not that I expect to even touch all 5, but I like to have options when it comes to what I feel like working on.
Anyone else have weekend sewing plans?

the idea of stars floating on a dark blue background is lovely, especially with the twinkling from the shot cottons. I think it will be gorgeous!
Thank you!! I can see it in my head, but no idea if I can make the actual thing look like what I see.
lol
I’ve done that with the color thing – been sick to death of a given range and sworn myself away from it only to find myself right back with it. hehe Your star is gorgeous.
I’m glad I’m not the only one! Last year was the year of aqua for me, so I guess this may just be the year of navy. Which means in about 6 months I will suddenly find a new color and follow it to burnout.
Kim and I are eating bagels and crafting Sunday morning. We haven’t had a craft day in what seems like forever. I also have to run to Joanns today because I miscalculated the size of a quilt back by about a yard…
Wooohoooo I hope you guys are having an amazing craft day today!! Our sew day yesterday was amazing! (although I don’t have a ton to show for it somehow. lol) I have so done the miscalculate by yard(s) on backs before…. Lemme tell you about my NuBees quilt…. lol
