Weekend plans

Weekend plans

Man I love the weekend. And it’s gorgeous here in Santa Cruz! Spring is definitely hitting the west coast, at least.

I like to plan out what to get done on the weekend, otherwise I end up frittering the entire thing away on the internet. My big plan for this weekend is to finish the fabric sorting project. This is 300 different fabrics so far, and I just bought 300 more comic book backer boards. I’m starting to see an actual dent in my fabric collection, thank goodness. I’ve just gotten so frustrated at not being able to find anything or being able to see what I have at a glance.

I’m also hoping to start working on the design for the next round of my Modern Medallion quilt. It was the frustration of not being able to see what I have that led to me finally biting the bullet on organizing my fabric stash. I did manage to get the storm at sea blocks done and sewn on.

Finally, is anyone else partaking in the Heather Ross drawing challenge? I haven’t drawn much since my art classes pre-grad school, so I was excited to get back into it. I really want to be able to draw my pets, so I’m using them as my subject matter. It’s only been 4 days but I am loving it! Here’s my sketch of Mishka that I did today after we got back from the vet.

  1. I just can’t get left behind… so my weekend included new sewing room storage furniture with lots of comic boards and folding in my near future. Love the drawings – you are so talented

    • Yay!! I can’t wait to see it set up! Even if you don’t end up using the comic boards. ;) I am excited that someday in my future, my stuff will be easy to access!
You should do the challenge! You will get better at anything you do if you do it every day. :)

  2. why are you so far away, dammit! I want to come over and hang out and wrap fabric around bits of cardboard. Waaaaaaaah!!!

    • Oh man, I would love to have your company while doing this!! Come move closer, imo! :D It’s meditative and sorta fun but I am worried I will never, ever finish. o.O

  3. So envious of those lovely cabinets – if I only had a place to put them! It would be very fun to see the stash at a glance. Of course, the down side would be that the husband could see how much I actually have…. I think it would scare him!

    • Space is an issue here, as well, so those cabinets are in the bedroom. :) But at least they’re pretty to look at!
I told my boyfriend that the cabinets were big enough that my fabric would only fill about half of them. He told me that he has faith in me that I’ll be able to fill them all. lol

  4. So fun! I actually just bought 2 packs of the comic book boards to try out. I have only wrapped about 5 pieces of fabric though. I should work on that this week. This weekend, I quilted two quilts and bound one of them. hip hip hooray! It’s not every day that I am so productive so it is worth celebrating. :)

    • Oh my gosh, you’re doing way better than I did over the weekend! Congratulations on your finishes!! I may never be done wrapping fabric. I keep wondering what I’ve gotten myself into. o.O On the other hand, it’s SO nice to work on a project and be able to pull fabrics so easily. So hopefully it will all be worth it.
