I really enjoyed the three-day weekend, and spent quite a bit of it sewing! We did take a break and drive out to Pescadero to visit the goat dairy farm there. They have the best cheese, and the goats are adorable! The drive back was gorgeous, and a nice reminder of what I love about Santa Cruz. The fog was rolling in, but there were areas that were completely clear, like this stretch of coastline below. However, most of the weekend was for sewing! Sadly, I don’t have a lot to show for it. One of the things I worked on was a pillow for our quilt guild secret pillow swap. I can’t show that until next month when I give it to my swap mate. The other thing that took up the majority of my weekend was working on the granny square blocks for the Not Your Granny’s Bee block swap. I made 24 of these blocks, 8 with white, 8 with snow, and 8 with charcoal. I’m kinda done with granny’s blocks for a while!

Those took a lot longer than I was expecting, so I didn’t have a lot of time to work on the 3×6 bee paper-pieced blocks. I’ve begun working on the block for my swapmate who requested grey, aquas and blues with white. I’m really enjoying seeing how this block looks in other color ways. I’m using the Shape Moth “Snow Cristal” patternfor this, and I really love how versatile it is.

I have the fabric pulled for the other half of it – I ran out of unique scraps.

And that’s all I have to show for the week! 🙂 I’ve told myself that I am not going to enter any more block swaps after this set so that I can work on finishing quilts instead of just making blocks. We shall see how that particular resolution goes!
Finished:
Not Your Granny’s Bee
Progress Made:
3×6 blocks quilt guild pillow swap
No Progress:
Wedding Quilt for April – 1/4 of the pieces are cut out.
Dissertation Quilt – 3 of 30 blocks done.
Nyan Cat Quilt – still in planning stage.
Linking up to Lee at Freshly Pieced per usual! I love seeing all the great things everyone is working on! Take a look if you have a chance. 🙂

Love the look of the “Snow Cristal” pattern – beautiful!
Shape Moth does gorgeous patterns! I kind of want to get more of her work now. 😀
We took 17 out to the coast this weekend to go berry picking! It also reminded me of how much I love that drive and the coast in particular. Small world 🙂 Lovely blues in those blocks!
Loving the colours in your Snow Cristal! Just gorgeous!
Thank you! My hivemates picked really pretty colors! That’s my favorite part of bees, working with colors I wouldn’t normally think to use. 🙂
Oooh, are you in the valley? Sometimes I wish 17 wasn’t a commuter road, because it’s actually quite beautiful. 🙂 I keep meaning to go to one of those berry picking places! Harley goat farm is easier but maybe not QUITE so healthy. 😉
I love the colors you chose for the Granny Squares and that Snow Crystal is really cool. (PS- I love Santa Cruz, too. I spent a week there for a family reunion and it was so fun)
Thank you! I was assigned the colors, but had fun trying to find fabrics that fit my style and the colors required. It turns out there’s not a lot of purple fabric out there, or blues that aren’t navy or aqua. 🙂
I bet your family had a great time here! Did you do anything fun like the train ride and the boardwalk? I still haven’t ridden the train, but keep meaning to.
Great projects…but that ‘Snow Crystal’ piece is fantastic!! I love how the white surrounds the colours. So very fresh….
Shape Moth did a lovely job on the pattern! I can’t wait to see how it looks in the other 5 color schemes my hivemates chose. 😀 Of course, I think I might be a bit sick of paper-piecing at that point. Hahaha
Oooohhh…the Snow Cristal quilt is going to be stunning! So wintery and fresh. Gorgeous. The pictures of your weekend are beautiful. I lived in the lovely south part of LA for a few years, and miss California every day.
Where do you live now? I moved to Washington state for four years and loved it there, but missed California. Now I’m back and I miss Washington. HAhaha
Thank you! Shape Moth did a lovely job on this pattern, it is so flexible and works well with so many color ways!
I love the snow crystal blocks! nice choice of fabrics too!
Thank you! I’m hitting my scrap jars hard for these, but it’s so fun using little pieces from so many previous projects. And probably the scrap jars could use having things taken out instead of being put in for a while. HAha
I am diggin’ your blocks! They look awesome!
Thanks so much! They are super fun to put together, but I’m kinda ready to work on a full quilt now. 🙂 I feel like I’ve been making blocks for months but not making any progress! lol
Wow, I LOVE the blues and grays and whites together in the Snow Cristal block! So cool!
Thank you! My hivemate picked a great set of colors this month. 😀 Actually, they all did! I’m really looking forward to seeing this pattern in all the different color themes. 🙂
That Snow Crystal block is really interesting. Your color picks are great! All I need is another project…. LOL! I do have a granny square project in the schedule…
And *that* is what Santa Cruz looks like? I had no idea. My daughter is headed that way on a business trip, she has no idea!
My hivemate chose the colors, I’m just following orders! lol I think I’m going to be a bit tired of paper piecing after making 6 of these. 😉
Technically the picture I posted is about 15 miles north of Santa Cruz, but Santa Cruz is just as beautiful! It has the same rugged coastline, but more houses. And a boardwalk. HAhaha
That Snow Cristal block is gorgeous!
Thank you! Shape Moth did such a great job with the design! It’s one of those blocks that works really well with lots of different colors. 🙂
