Our website has been slow for a while now, and I’ve been dealing with our hosting provider for a while with no resolution. So we’re going to move to a new service provider. I will try to make this as seamless as possible, but it’s slated to happen in the next 2 or 3 weeks. Just a heads up if things get a little funky. I’ll update everyone as we go along, but hopefully you won’t even notice!
I’ve been pretty busy this last week, although I am thinking I might need a break from the two projects I’ve been focusing on. I want to get them done, but my creative side needs something different to look at for a bit. π
With that said, here’s what’s been goin’ on!
In Progress:
Mod Pop Quilt –Β I got another row done on this quilt, but need to do more cutting/piecing curves before I can do the last row. There are also two partial rows that go on each side, so I’m over half done, but still have quite a bit more work to do on this one. I’ve started doubting my choice to use prints for the focal fabrics instead of a single fabric. Hopefully when it’s done it will grow on me again. It’s not uncommon that I fall out of love with a quilt while I work on it, so I’m working on faith here!
Nyan Cat Quilt –Β I have the first row done! It’s the most interesting row, the top and bottom will be mostly made up of sky and stars, but I can’t wait to see this finished. π Β The quilt itself is fairly heavy due to all the interfacing, even though I used the thinnest fusible interfacing I could get. Still giggling on this one. Have not fallen out of love with it, just wish it wasn’t so SLOW.
I don’t generally like to point out my [numerous] mistakes, because I know people don’t typically notice, but in this case I will point it out so others don’t make the same mistake. When you put together the blocks using the Oh Fransson tutorial, and you’re not sashing but putting them directly together… make sure you choose whether you’re doing the horizontal or vertical seams first, and do that for all your blocks. Because it’s noticeable if you don’t. One of the blocks I did the opposite direction of the other 3, and you can tell.
Sew, Sew Modern –Β I’m still brainstorming ideas, but this is one of the things I’m considering. I love this crane star pattern by Patchwork Pottery. I would use the text fabrics and other neutrals as the background, with each crane done in a different color. I’d probably use slightly different fabrics for the rainbow, but these give the idea of what I’m going for.
I have a special fabric that I found on Etsy that will totally give away my partner if I show it, but I am thinking of making a simpler pieced back using it.
No Progress:
April & Kerry’s Wedding Quilt: Argh, really need to get more of the pieces cut on this!
Dissertation Quilt: 3/30 still. Lowest priority, not feeling the creative juices on this one currently.
Christmas Quilt: Still waiting for the retreat.
NuBees Quilt: Top done, just need to create the back (which I even have the fabric for.)
Linking up to Lee’s WIP Wednesday linky! Definitely go check out all the other great things people are working on!

Don’t give up on that mod pod! It is stunning, and I especially like the different fabrics throughout.
Thank you for the encouragement! I have too much done to give up now. I may just take a bit of a break from it and pick it up next week. π
Ooh your projects look like so much fun! It makes me want to turn out some curves, and piece tiny squares!! Happy sewing!!
Thank you!! Leanne at shecanquilt posted a no-pin curve tutorial video and it makes it go super fast! And the tiny squares are strangely relaxing to lay out..
I love your Mod Pop! Have faith and please keep going! You are right, we do fall in love with it all over again….
Thanks for the encouraging words! I think I tend to get a bit overly consumed with projects, and it makes me fall out of love with them. I think a short break will help me feel better about it!
I think your mod pod quilt looks great! I agree, I often fall out of love with projects, but don’t get discouraged!
Thank you! I will try not to get discouraged. I probably just need a quick break and it will make me excited again when I see it. π
Oh my gosh that Nyan car quilt is going to be amaz-ing! I’m also in love with your mod pop quilt top. I adore the prints in the focal fabric, don’t be discouraged, it’s going to turn out fantastic!
Thanks so much! I’ll probably focus more on the nyan cat quilt this week to get more of it finished and take a short break from the mod pop, so I can be refreshed when I pick it up again! It’s a Christmas present, so I can’t take TOO long of a break though!
I am not second guessing your fabric selections – I think mod pop looks awesome! Thanks for the heads up on the interfacing grid. And good luck with server issues – those suck. Happy sewing Anne!

Thank you! I will keep up the good fight on the mod pop. π Server issues are so frustrating! I feel rather helpless about the whole thing, other than just moving to a new service provider.
Re: modpop I know what you mean about losing interest. I’m never sure whether I’ve fallen out of love, or just have an amazingly short attention span! π
Keep going-it’s beautiful!
Oh man, I think you might be on to something! I am totally fickle when it comes to projects! I think that’s why I’ve stuck to doing bee blocks for so long… doing the same block in the same colors for long enough to make an entire quilt top?!? Eesh!
Thank you for the encouragement!
love your projects and great fabric find
Thank you so much! I’m loving the fabrics. π
I really like the prints as the focal fabric…it looks great!
Thanks Amanda! I think I just needed a bit of a break from it. It also looks a bit busier in person than in the picture, but I haven’t looked at it for the past two days so I can be refreshed when I see it again. π
Love the Mod Pop quilt!
Thank you so much! It really is a great pattern. π It comes together a lot more quickly than you would think!
