WIP Wednesday

WIP Wednesday

I’m still a little sick, but I managed to actually get the sewing machine going this week. Yay! It feels great to be sewing again. :) But for now it’s time to check-in on where things stand.

Finished

shelvesdone

Fabric Storage - This is the biggest finish for me, seeing as I’ve been working on this since January. If you’re interested in details of cost, organization, folding, etc. there is a blog post available to answer all your questions.

sprouts

F+F March Bee Blocks - For March, Emily asked for these really fun sprout blocks (tutorial available here). I wanted to get one of them done, and ended up making all three! I signed up for blue and green, and couldn’t decide on aqua or navy, so I did both. :)

Progress

Heather Ross Drawing Challenge - Whoa, we’re two weeks in now, and I don’t feel like I’m making as much progress, but I’m trying out different techniques. I think maybe for the last week I should force myself to go outside and draw stuff outside instead of just drawing my pets. I’ve actually almost filled my sketch book, so time for a new one of those, as well!

No Progress

Modern Medallion – Now that my fabric storage is dealt with, I can start making progress on this again.

Sew Sew Modern 2 Swap - I’ve picked a color scheme and a bag, but the bag pattern wasn’t in stock. Hopefully this week I will make more progress!

April & Kerry’s quilt - I will make progress on this quilt this month, I swear.

  1. Your stash storage looks fantastic! So bright and cheerful!

    Loving the sprout blocks!

    • Thanks again! I admit I go into the room and just look at it sometimes. hahaha
The sprout blocks are super fun to make! And really straight forward! Just a couple of HSTs and the rest is regular patchwork.

  2. Hi Anne! You storage looks beautiful! I know you mentioned light damage before, but I just want to tell you that I have my fabrics in closed wooden drawers, with no direct light, and I still get sun damage. Do you know that you can get transparent sticky UV protection? That could be an extra protection to your fabrics.
Here’s how I arrange my fabrics. Ikea also, but they don’t make them anymore!

    Happy sewing!

    • Wow, seriously?! How are they getting sun damaged all hidden away? :O I’ll look into the UV protection, that sounds like a great choice, thank you for sharing it! Your storage is stunning, and really does not look like IKEA at all. Wow. And the handles are super clever! I’ve already noticed there’s an issue with putting fabrics back in, so maybe I need to come up with a system like that. :D

  3. I love that sprout block, it is perfect!
Your fabric storage looks amazing. Your stash is framed beautifully!

    • Thank you! The sprout blocks come together really fast since it’s just four HSTs and a bunch of squares. :) Super fun! I will admit, I sometimes go and hang out next to my stash just looking at it. lol

  4. Oooh, pretty. Can I come and play with your stash? It looks so inviting. :)

    • Sure!! That’d be so fun! :D It is currently the prettiest place in our house. lol

  5. Nice storage idea. I’m looking to redo my room with something like this.

    • It’s definitely worth it to get your stash into a place where it’s easy and fun to use! If you want any advice or even want someone to vent to during the process, please feel free! :D

  6. Totally jelly over your fabric cabinet! You should host slumber parties (and charge admission) in this sewing room!

    • HAhahahahahaha that is such an awesome idea. Amusement park for crafters! It is actually doubling as a guest bedroom, so there’s a day bed in there already and everything!

  7. Your fabric storage is great! It’s a beautiful rainbow of fabric.

    • Thank you! :D I really like to just go into the room and look at it!

  8. Hmm one day, when I get a china cabinet, I may just have to fill it with fabric instead of fancy dishes. The sprout blocks are so cute. I just finished up a pouch in the same colors. Actually I made the pouch with you in mind even though I am swapping it at the stash bash. Hopefully others have your same taste :)

    • Hahaha I think that’s a fantastic use of a china cabinet. :D The sprout blocks were super fast! Just some squares and a few HSTs. It took longer to cut everything than it did to sew it. :)
I want to see this pouch! :D It sounds awesome! And I’m totally flattered that you made it with me in mind!

  9. That is some great storage. I wish I had more room.
I just started on my Marcelle Medallion. I could use some tips!

    • Room is always an issue! We have a very small house, which is why I got such tall cabinets. I needed to maximize the amount of space! :) This is a different medallion quilt, but I’ve seen the Marcelle Medallion quilt a couple of times, and it looks GORGEOUS. Have you picked out your color scheme yet? :) I know with my medallion quilt I ended up needing to not over think it. I bought fabric for it that I ended up not using at all because each round sort of inspired the next one. Thinking it all out ahead of time just didn’t do anything for me!

  10. your storage is so pretty! I wish I had more room. I just started my Marcelle Medallion quilt and I could use some pointers.

    • Thank you! It’s been really lovely to work with compared to my old storage method. :D

  11. love the fabrics…but the storage is exceptional

    • Thank you! I spent a lot of time planning this thing, so it feels really good to see it come together! :D

  12. Your storage organization looks great. I just finished mine too, so I totally understand that undertaking :-)

    • Congratulations on getting your own organization done!! I’d love to see pictures if you have them available or on your blog (I searched around but didn’t see it). It’s so nice to be able to just create without having to do that crazy searching bit first!

  13. Fantastic looking storage and that sprout block is fabulous!

    • Thanks so much! The sprout blocks come together really fast once the cutting is done. :) I’m so happy my storage is organized now!! Such a nicer feeling than how it looked before. :D
