I joined my first virtual bee this month, and I’m having a blast with it! I joined the NuBees group, and I’m really enjoying the challenge of pulling fabrics for color schemes that are not my normal go-tos. I never imagined it would be such a fun design challenge!
For my block, I chose to do a mix of the Lucky Pieces block and the dutch pinwheel. I used the tutorial at Fresh Lemons Quilts for the Summer Sampler series. I have three blocks done, and I’m working on the fourth (and last) one, but I’m still debating on the layout.

The last block I’m debating on layout and whether I want to include the black or not. I like the one on the left the most, but the person it is for requested some contrast. I’ll play around with it some more and see where it ends up. 🙂
I mentioned in a previous post somewhere that I have a charm swap problem. I’ve quit signing up for them (I’ve graduated to bees. I think charm swaps are the gateway drug) but I thought I’d post a quick pic I took of my color sorted collection of charms from my charm swaps. I still have two more outstanding, so this stack will only get bigger.

In other non-quilty news, I needed to update my driver’s license (it expired during the dissertation push, and I didn’t notice) so I figured it was time to get a hair cut and color. I’ve done a lot of reds and pinks in the past, so this time I went with purple, and had the stylist do an ombre effect which I absolutely love!

While this picture looks fairly serene, in actuality I was pretending to smell these flowers (they don’t smell) because I was being a big dork, and then the wind kicked up and pushed the flower right up my nose. Yep, keepin’ it classy!
Graduation is this weekend, so I’m not sure how much time I’ll have to devote to sewing. 🙁 Hoping I can finish up my bee blocks and get them mailed out, though!
I’m linking up to Lee’s WIP Wednesday link party at Freshly Pieced.

Love the bee blocks and the new hair. Yeah that stack of charm swaps is screaming for an intervention. I have one puny baggy to show for my swaps. Bask in the glory and pride of graduation this weekend – congratulations.
I love these blocks! Thank you for sharing, I’ve been looking for a pinwheel block I am in love with enough for a big quilt I’ve been dreaming up. I spent some time in The Netherlands last spring and have fabric but haven’t picked a pattern yet. It might have to be this one.
I love the grey red and orange. It pops out so beautifully.
