It’s Giveaway Day!

Edit 5/25/2012 – This giveaway is now closed! Thank you everyone for entering!

We’re really excited to be participating in Sew Mama Sew’s bi-annual giveaway day. Anne and I have enjoyed entering giveaways a few times now (especially Anne, who’s won a few things), so we are thrilled to now have the opportunity to give back to our wonderful community. Read on to find out how to win!

Play Crafts is all about creating tools to help people design, create, and share their quilts and ideas online. Our first tool, Palette Builder, will let you create a color palette out from a photograph. For our giveaway, we’ve decided to pull fabrics from a palette we made out of a common sight here in Santa Cruz: a beautiful sunset.

The sunset palette.

If you are interested in trying out Palette Builder, please join our mailing list. We anticipate asking people for feedback on an early version of the tool in the next two weeks.

Once we had the palette, we went a little nuts at our local fabric store finding the best combination of fabrics to match the colors. We are so grateful to Harts employee Julia for helping us to a) find all these gorgeous fabrics, and b) put them away again when we were done!

Deep in the middle of fabric selection. We made a bit of a mess…

And here’s what we finally decided on! A custom “sunset” bundle of eight fat quarters:

The “sunset” fat quarter bundle.

Fabrics are (top to bottom): a) Robert Kaufman – Kona black, b) Parson Gray’s “Universe in Night” from the Curious Nature collection, c) Kaffe Fassett shot cotton in Lavender, d) Lilliput Fields – Suzani Mod Violet, e) Dear Stella Solids – light pink, f) Erin McMoris’s “Weekends Go By Bike” for Free Spirit, g) Kaffe Fassett shot cotton in Watermelon, and h) Denyse Schmidt’s Flea Market Fancy bouquet in red – legacy reprint.

We think it matches fairly well. And considering we pulled just about every fabric in these colors in the whole store, this is definitely the best we could do! (P.S. Hey fabric designers, we would LOVE to see more modern fabrics in blue-violet.)

Color palette meets fabric stack.

There are two ways to enter to win these gorgeous fabrics! This giveaway is open to international participants.

1) Please comment on this post with an answer to one of these questions:

a) What part of the quilting design process do you wish was easier?
b) What color fabrics do you wish you had more of in your stash?

2) Follow our blog! And then leave us a second comment saying you have done so.

That’s it! We will draw a winner on May 25th at 5pm Pacific time. Please make sure you leave us a way to contact you when you post. We will announce the winner as soon as possible, but no later than May 27th.

Good luck!
