This week seemed to be all about doing prep work.
That included buying fabric and making binding for the two big quilts. I ended up going with Interweave Chambray for both of them because I love that they’re a bit thicker and still have the lovely shot cotton texture and sheen. For Eli’s Bento Box, I went with Cobalt (aqua + navy). The orange in the middle is a bit of a Kaffe shot cotton that I doubled up to make it thicker.
For my dad’s quilt, I went with Interweave Chambray in Lagoon (lime + teal) which reminds me a lot of the ocean. I was originally going to go with a lime binding (I love navy quilts with lime binding!) but it just felt really flat. The chambray managed to get both the green and blue in there, which I’m really happy with.
And then the Dragon Quilt of Doomity-Doom-Doom. Which may soon get another Doom as I’m back to procrastination mode. I am just totally stuck on what to do with the rest of the quilt. I had an original design that got thrown out when the first block I made was half the size it was supposed to be. (Which was a good thing, they would have been ridiculously huge otherwise.)
So I just started grabbing paper-piecing patterns that I love and have wanted to try. And now I’m second guessing myself and wondering if I should just do something much, much, simpler, especially given the lack of time.
Edit to add: I just showed my idea for the design to my best friend and she flat out laughed at me. And mentioned “scope” and “insane” and a few other things. So, back to the drawing board, and maybe not with the paper-piecing.
Maybe I can just give my niece 3 dragon pillows?
